Kim Stout, RN, MSN, CPHRM, is the Chief Nursing Officer of McAlester Regional Health Center (MRHC), a 171-bed public trust hospital serving the healthcare needs of Southeastern Oklahoma. Kim has been the CNO for seven years, however has worked at MRHC for 24 years in several roles.

Kim joined McAlester Regional Health Center in 1996 as the Director of Home Care. She successfully grew the home care department from an Average Daily Census (ADC) of 40 to an ADC of 125 within two years as well as transitioned home care services through pay-per-visit to Interim Payment System to Prospective Payment System and into the HHRG payment system. MRHCs Home Care services were JCAHO accredited and were deemed status with the Oklahoma State Department of Health. During her tenure as the home health director, she had a <2% nursing turnover rate over a 10 year period.

In 2006, Kim accepted a position as the Director of Post-Acute and Medical Services at MRHC, which included a 20 bed Acute Rehab Unit, 20 bed Skilled Nursing Facility, Home Health Agency, Durable Medical Equipment business, and 24 bed medical floor. She also designed and implemented a very successful nurse externship program that has proven to be very effective in our nurse recruiting efforts.

In 2011, Kim took on the role of VP of Quality and Risk Management. Within 18 months of the position, Kim achieved certification as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management. During this period, Kim led the organization to effectively achieve ISO 9001 certification, DNV accreditation and a Leap Frog score of A. She was also instrumental in the development of several Quality Improvement initiatives that led to MRHC receiving awards for: reduction and/or zero rate of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) program, Central Lines Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI), Ventilator Associated Pneumonia/Events (VAP/VAE) as well as implementation of an Early Elective Delivery (EED) reduction program in partnership with the Oklahoma Hospital Association. Kim also led the Quality Department and MRHC to attain Stroke Center of Excellence certification by DNV. MRHC is the only Level II stroke center in Southeastern Oklahoma.

In 2013, Kim accepted the role of Chief Nursing Officer. During Kim’s tenure as CNO, she led a team to open a successful Hospice program, and, inpatient dialysis; implemented a Bundled Payment program and a transitional care program. Kim is currently working on several initiatives in an effort to assist with attaining MRHC’s goal of becoming the regional referral center for Southeastern Oklahoma, including: palliative care, patient engagement technology,  opening of a cardiac step-down unit; professional development strategies; as well as ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to improve overall quality and patient safety.

Kim has been a registered nurse for 34 years, having obtained her Associate Degree in Nursing from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1986, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 2000 and her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in 2005. She is a member of the Oklahoma Organization of Nurse Executives (OONE), Oklahoma Nurses Association (ONA), American Nurses Association (ANA) and sits on the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Education and Practice Advisory Council.

Kim is married to Kelley Stout and they have two grown daughters. She likes to fish, travel, spend time with her Granddaughter “Oakley” and go to classic car shows/cruises.
