MRHC Offers Continuing Education
McAlester Regional Health Center has begun offering free Continuing Medical Education sessions for area doctors and other medical providers.
The hospital is accredited for CME by the Oklahoma State Medical Association, and providers attending can earn up to 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 for each session.
Dr. Jason McElyea presented the first session on Antibiotic Stewardship to a standing-room-only crowd last month. Those attending included MRHC doctors and nurses, medical students, as well as other physicians in the community.
McElyea, who is Director of Medical Education for MRHC, worked with his team to acquire the necessary accreditation through Oklahoma State University.
Usually, providers must travel to medical schools or conferences to take such courses, which can be costly in terms of both finances and time.
“This is a great thing for doctors in our community to be able to get CME credit without have to leave the hospital, or McAlester,” said MRHC CEO David Keith. “This is for both our own doctors as well as providers throughout the Southeast Oklahoma region.”
Dr. McElyea teaches the classes with help from the MRHC Family Medicine resident physicians. He is director for the residency program in which doctors serve a three-year residency at MRHC to specialize in Family Medicine.
March CME sessions include Pediatric Orthopedic Procedures (March 11), Blood Disorders (March 18), and Gastrointestinal Disorders (March 25). Area physicians are also welcome to present lectures by contacting Gayla Burow, staff coordinator for the MRHC Family Practice Residency program, at 918-421-6081.
Classes are held on the MRHC campus on the first floor of the mail building in the Large Classroom between 8 a.m. and noon. Those planning to attend may RSVP with Lisa Crabtree at 918-421-8056.
