McAlester Regional Health Center’s Laboratory provides necessary and valuable services to the hospital and patients. As a local full-service laboratory, we perform over 250,000 tests annually and provide quick, accurate results. You do not need to be a McAlester Regional patient to utilize our services. We’re open 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays, to offer a continuum of service in variety of testing and results that can assist in diagnosis, and we’re licensed by the Oklahoma State Department of Health to collect Legal Drug Screens. Our CAP (College of American Pathologist) Laboratory provides a full range of services to patients of all ages.
Aside from servicing patients of our hospital, McAlester Regional Health Center’s Laboratory has partnered with nursing homes, physician’s offices, home health and hospice agencies, and other hospitals to be their laboratory of choice. Our goals include:

Although you don’t need an appointment, physician’s order is required for any laboratory test, and most results are available to your physician the same day we collect your specimen.
Pre-Test Instructions
Most laboratory tests require no special preparation on the part of the patient. Some of the more common outpatient tests ordered are listed below. Please feel free to call us at 918-421-8174 and ask if there are any special pre-test requirements to better prepare before coming to the lab. We understand that our patients have a variety of needs, so we provide several services, including:
- Hematology – Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Blood gases – Arterial or Venous Blood Gases
- Chemistry – Metabolic Panels (BMP & CMP), Lipid panels, and Hemoglobin A1c
- Special chemistry – Thyroid studies, vitamin studies
- Immunology
- Urinalysis – urine studies and medical/legal drug screens
- Virology – Respiratory panels, including Influenza, SARS-COV2, and Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV)
- Mycology
- Coagulation – Prothrombin time (PT/INR)
- Blood bank
- Microbiology
- Histopathology
- Oral pathology
- Cytology
