Our program is committed to fully training competent and compassionate family medicine physicians. We are dually accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Our program’s philosophy is that family medicine is the cornerstone of medical practice and, in so being, our program is necessarily broad in scope and designed to develop a family physician that is able to care for the whole person and their family.

Continuous and comprehensive care is an essential longitudinal component of our educational experiences. Our residents are trained to provide evidence based acute, chronic and preventative medical care in any setting including our hospital, outpatient residency clinic and long term care facilities. Our residents are expected to maintain a continuing physician-patient relationship through all stages of life and phases of care.

Our rotations are specifically designed to provide a broad base of patient care experiences with increasing levels of complexity and patient care responsibility. Some of our rotations involve critical care and other specialties available on site within the McAlester Regional Health center. For these rotations our resident physicians are trained at another facility that as an ongoing affiliation agreement with our program.

Establishing routine care visits with a primary Physician is an essential part of preventive care. The McAlester Regional Family Medicine Residency Program has been a part of the McAlester community for over 5 years.
